Ash Orbit

project overview
The "Ash Orbit" by Kuro is an exploration of functional minimalism and raw materiality. Drawing heavily from Japanese design philosophies and celestial forms, this piece functions as both a sophisticated ashtray and an elegant catchall for everyday items. Crafted from custom-poured concrete and terrazzo, its geometric square base sharply contrasts with the smooth, concentric circular depressions. The goal was to elevate an everyday object into a sculptural centerpiece, bringing a sense of grounded tranquility to modern interiors.

The design language of the Ash Orbit is defined by the striking interplay of light, shadow, and geometry. By utilizing raw materials such as speckled concrete and tinted terrazzo, each piece showcases unique textural variations and exudes an industrial, wabi-sabi charm. The central raised hub and the surrounding trough are precisely engineered to either catch ash or hold jewelry, while the stark, clean outer edges ground the form. This design is a testament to Kuro's ethos of creating minimalist objects that are visually striking both in isolation and during everyday use.
